Terms of Service
Effective October 15, 2026
These Terms govern your use of the milestoneproject.io website, Milestone Plans (plans.milestoneproject.io), Milestone Maps (maps.milestoneproject.io, including its API, map renderer, SDKs and developer portal) and any related service (together, the “Services”). The Services are provided by Milestone Project (“we”, “us”). By creating an account, using an API key, or otherwise using the Services you agree to these Terms. If you use them for an organization, you confirm you can bind it, and “you” includes it. If you don’t agree, don’t use the Services.
1. Accounts
- You sign in with a passkey. You must give a working email address, and you are responsible for the devices and passkeys that can access your account and for everything done through it.
- You must be at least 18 years old, or the age of majority where you live if that is higher.
- Keep API keys secret. Anything made with your key counts as your use, including its usage and charges. Tell us promptly if a key or passkey is compromised.
- Each product has its own account; they are separate and don’t share sign-ins or data.
2. Using the Services
You may use the Services for lawful purposes and in line with these Terms and any documentation, rate limits and key restrictions we publish. You must not:
- break the law, infringe others’ rights, or upload content you have no right to upload;
- probe, scan or test the vulnerability of the Services, or bypass authentication, rate limits, quotas or key and domain restrictions;
- overload or disrupt the Services, or use them to build or train a competing geocoding, mapping or planning service;
- bulk-download, scrape or resell map tiles or geocoding results, or store results beyond what the documentation allows;
- share, sell or publish an API key, or use one from an origin it isn’t authorized for;
- remove or obscure attribution, or reverse engineer the Services except where the law lets you despite this clause.
We may rate-limit, suspend or block use that we reasonably believe breaks this section or threatens the Services or other users.
3. Milestone Plans
Plans lets you write project plans in plain text and view them as charts. Plans you create, and their saved versions, are your content (see section 6). Milestone Plans is currently free; we may introduce paid plans, which will be announced in advance and will not apply to you until you agree to them.
4. Milestone Maps
- The Maps API provides reverse and forward geocoding, vector map tiles and related tools. The free tier has usage limits; usage above them requires a paid plan or a commercial license.
- Results are provided as-is. Place, address and map data can be incomplete, outdated or wrong. Don’t rely on it where an error could cause injury or serious loss, including navigation for emergency, aviation, marine or other safety-critical use.
- The data comes from Overture Maps Foundation and other open sources, including OpenStreetMap contributors. That data is licensed under its own terms, which continue to apply to you. You must show the attribution our map and documentation require wherever you display results or tiles.
5. Paid plans and payments
- Stripe. We take payments through Stripe, Inc. and its affiliates. When you pay, you also agree to Stripe’s terms. We never see or store your full card number; Stripe does.
- Fees and taxes. Prices are shown at checkout, in the currency shown. They exclude taxes, which we add where required (Stripe may calculate them).
- Subscriptions. Subscriptions renew automatically for the same period until you cancel. You can cancel at any time in the billing portal or by emailing us; it takes effect at the end of the paid period, and you keep access until then.
- Usage charges. Where a plan bills for usage above an included amount, we bill that usage as measured by our systems, which are the record unless there’s an obvious error.
- Price changes. We’ll give at least 30 days’ notice of a price change; it applies from your next renewal after the notice, and you can cancel before then.
- Refunds. Fees are non-refundable except where the law requires, or where we say otherwise in writing. If we end your paid plan without cause, we’ll refund the unused part of the period you prepaid.
- Failed payments. If a payment fails we may retry it and, after notice, downgrade or suspend the paid features until it is paid.
- Consulting and licensing. Custom software, vCTO and commercial Maps licensing engagements are covered by their own written agreement, which prevails over these Terms where they differ.
6. Your content
You keep all rights in the content you put into the Services (such as your plans and the queries you send). You give us a limited license to host, process, copy and display it only as needed to run and improve the Services for you, and to meet legal obligations. You are responsible for your content and for having the rights to it. We don’t use your plans to train AI models.
7. Our property
We and our licensors own the Services, including the software, designs and trademarks. Subject to these Terms, we grant you a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable right to use them. If you send us feedback, we may use it freely without obligation to you.
8. Availability and changes
We work to keep the Services running, but they are provided without a promise of uninterrupted or error-free operation, and we may change or discontinue features. If we discontinue a paid feature, we’ll give notice and refund the unused part of what you prepaid for it. Keep your own backup of anything important.
9. Termination
You may stop using the Services and delete your account at any time. We may suspend or end your access if you break these Terms, don’t pay, or put the Services or others at risk, and otherwise on 30 days’ notice. On termination your right to use the Services ends; sections that by their nature should survive (including 6, 7, 10–13) do. On request we’ll delete your data as described in our Privacy Policy.
10. Disclaimers
The Services are provided “as is” and “as available”. To the fullest extent the law allows, we disclaim all warranties, express or implied, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy and non-infringement. Some places don’t allow these exclusions, so some may not apply to you.
11. Limit of liability
To the fullest extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, or for lost profits, revenue, data or goodwill. Our total liability for any claim relating to the Services is limited to the amount you paid us for the Services in the 12 months before the claim arose. If you use only free Services, we have no liability to you for them, to the extent the law allows. Nothing in these Terms limits liability that can’t be limited by law, such as for fraud or for death or personal injury caused by negligence.
12. Indemnity
If you use the Services for a business, you will defend and indemnify us against third-party claims, and resulting losses and reasonable costs, arising from your content, your breach of these Terms, or your use of the Services in breach of law.
13. Governing law and disputes
These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of California, USA, excluding its conflict-of-law rules, and the courts located in Orange County, California have exclusive jurisdiction, except that either of us may seek urgent relief in any competent court. If you are a consumer, you also keep any mandatory rights, and the right to bring a claim in the courts, of the place where you live. Please email us first so we can try to resolve a problem informally.
14. Changes to these Terms
We may update these Terms. We’ll post the new version here with a new effective date and, for material changes, tell account holders by email or in the product at least 30 days ahead. Continued use after the change takes effect means you accept it.
15. General
These Terms, with any order form or written agreement and the Privacy Policy, are the entire agreement between us about the Services. If a part is unenforceable the rest stays in force. Our not enforcing a right isn’t a waiver. You may not assign these Terms without our consent; we may assign them in a merger or sale of the business. We’re not liable for delays caused by events beyond our reasonable control.
